Each year, highly talented new undergraduate and graduate students begin their course of study at our university. Some of these future professionals and academicians have disabilities. Time after time, students identify our faculty as a primary reason for choosing WUSTL. Opportunities to study with scholars who are equally well-regarded for their commitment to mentoring make the WUSTL experience an extraordinary one in and out of the classroom.
Over the past 25 years, growing numbers of students with disabilities have prepared for, participated in, and succeeded in postsecondary education. The law requires that these students are “otherwise qualified,” which means they must meet the same admissions criteria as peers without disabilities. Disability Resources (DR) is the university’s official resource for students with disabilities and the faculty, staff, and graduate student instructors who work with them. We hope the resources below can be of use to the entire WU community who endeavor to provide equal access to WUSTL students with disabilities.
Following a student's submission of sufficient documentation and a specific registration forms, Disability Resources prepare a Verification of Individual Student Accommodation (VISA). This letter confirms a student's registration and accommodations, but does not reveal the nature of a student's disability. This letter is made available to students electronically via TutorTrac, Cornerstone's online academic resource system, to which each student registered with Disability Resources receives a login.
The final step in registration each semester is for a student to download and print their VISA, which they may present to the instructor(s) of each course for which they wish to use their accommodations. This letter should only be presented in persion.
